The distinctive swirling pattern has long and varied history, involving interior furnishings, Scottish shawls, and the swinging sixties. And it all began way out East.

Designs of the Time

Last week, Leah and Blair from James Dunlop gave a fantastic presentation, at the Wellington Design Library, of the new Designs of the Time range.

It’s a well-travelled collection taking inspiration from Africa, Scandinavia, and the Orient. Take a nomadic journey with Bohemian-Chic style and a little bit of Gipsy love.

The many patterns and materials define the rhythm of the collection, offering a glimpse of faraway lands.

Dreaming of a far away land

sml_DSC0054crop2

We’re dreaming of traveling to exotic lands… taking the train, navigating by sea, maps we still get lost with, wandering the streets in a city we can’t speak the language of, and ordering cappuccino senza spuma with just the right amount of difficulty.

Bring a playful pop of colour, a little bit of imagination, and a lot of happiness and delight to every child’s room!

We have some wonderful new additions to our children’s ranges from Harlequin, Unique Fabrics, and Jane Churchill for Atelier Textiles. These give a bright pop and a sparkle of life when paired with solid colour or textured fabrics such as the smooth velvets by James Dunlop.

Velvet Revolution

Velvet Revolution - Warwick Velvets

We had a wonderful afternoon hosting Velvet Revolution last Friday.

VelvetR01VelvetR02VelvetR03

Velvet was first introduced to Baghdad during the rule of Harun al-Rashid by Kashmiri merchants. Traditionally made from silk and associated with nobility, in 1399, King Richard II of England directed in his will that his body should be clothed in velveto.
Velvet is a type of woven tufted fabric in which cut threads create a short dense pile, giving it a distinctive feel. The word ‘velvety’ is used as an adjective to mean “smooth like velvet.”

Quilted Pieces

trend-cUdZRI-alert

Trending are Quilted pieces and it’s popular throughout the design world used with furniture through to haute couture to hunting gear. We like the idea of combining the motif in luxurious velvet for many interior design applications.
